For Orphans & Needy Children around the World

October 26, 2009

If you or your family member have been touched by orphans or needy children or if you have suffered the loss of a family member, please forgive me if this email causes you any distress or grief

Dear Friends,
Today I’m writing to tell you about really wonderful and exciting news, FOSIS Charity Week will be happening all this week. I’m hoping you can play a crucial role in this truly amazing effort to unite the people around UK, Ireland, Australia and the United States, helping the very people who need us; the orphans and needy children.

I guess we all already know about the state of orphans and needy children around the world. But I wish to remind you about a few things which never fail to amaze me everyday; 8% of all children around the world, approximately 150 million are orphans. Out of this, about 10.6 million (8%) of all children will die of preventable causes before age five and 5.4% of all children will die before age one.

In fact, about 42 000 children are orphaned every day – and these are much more than a cold statistic. It’s 42 000 unique, individual personalities who are fragile, hurting, fearful and in urgent need of care. And for each orphan and needy child, there’s another equally as stressed and worried orphan and needy child trying to comfort them.

This is the sad reality of the poverty stricken nations around the globe whose people have barely anything to live upon. Allah Most High says in the Qur’an, “So as for the orphans, do not oppress them, and as for beggars, do not berate them,” (93:9-10) and the Almighty says, “Have you seen him who denies the deen? He is the one who harshly rebuffs the orphan and does not urge the feeding of the poor.” (107:1-3)

We passionately believe we can change this and make the world a better place for them, just like what the Prophet and his companions did a good few centuries ago. Umar Ibn Al-Khattab used to roam the cities of Madinah at night in search of people who were in need and in once instance, his son Abdullah would be seen earning riches in one day and borrowing a loan during another because he distributed his wealth amongst the needy. Ibn Umar also encouraged the feeding of poor people and often ate alongside orphans. He would also rebuke his children for neglecting the needy and treating the rich by saying to them ‘You invite the rich and forsake the poor’!

These examples along with those from Abu Bakar As-Saddique, Abdur Rahman Ibn Auf, Hassan ibn Ali and Abdullah ibn Jafar among others are not co-incidence. They in fact believe in the saying of the Messenger of Allah who said, “The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim. He should not wrong him nor surrender him to his enemy. Allah will take care of the needs of anyone who takes care of the needs of his brother. On the Day of Rising Allah will dispel the anxiety of anyone who dispels the anxiety of another Muslim. On the Day of Rising Allah will veil anyone who veils another Muslim.” [Agreed upon]

You might ask what difference will the money make? Well, for years now we have been keeping our promise helping the orphans and needy children around the world. From Orphan schools in Kenya, Orphanages in Mali, Chechnya and Somalia to the orphans of the South East Asian Earthquake in Pakistan, we have let the work speak for itself. For little Ahmad in Bangladesh or Kate in Kosova, the one-to-one sponsorship they received must be helping them a lot in living day-to-day basis. and so do other orphans around the world.  They need your help, now.

As much as prayer helps, we also urgently need your goodwill and generous gift – whatever you can afford. This extraordinary effort is not just another dream; it is the dream of ordinary people all around the world.

Please be part of this wonderful, inspiring effort. Join with hundreds of other generous people like yourself and help us to help the Orphans and Needy Children all around the world.

The time is now.

Yours Sincerely,
Charity Week Team
on behalf of Orphans and Needy Children all around the world
